Canadian education is a large and multi-faceted topic. For this course, one facet has been selected for close scrutiny: the public education system.

Governance 540: Global Governance and Law, a three-credit, graduate-level course that provides an overview of the theoretical debates on law as governance in an increasingly globalized world.

Indigenous Studies 511: Indigenous Knowledge and Education addresses Indigenous knowledge as a fundamental component of Indigenous education. In doing that, it also prepares the student to address and understand Indigenous pedagogy and knowledge for and about Indigenous peoples.

MAIS 602: Doing Interdisciplinary Research is the core methods course in the MA-IS Program that will ensure students understand and are able to employ the methods required to carry out and complete interdisciplinary research.

This course delves into the underlying intellectual traditions of community studies and introduces you to the realities of community practice. The central idea of the course is that planning for action, particularly action resulting in community change, is something to be desired in a society that values rationality.

MAIS 617: Creative Non-Fiction is a hybrid course in which students will have a chance to do both literary criticism and creative work.

”This course is designed to think about the art of thinking together in our present historical moment at the dawn of the new millennium.“

Topics to consider: democracy in our business and community organizations, the elements of democratic communication (conversation), ways to speak and act intelligently as designers of just learning organizations.

The goal of MAIS 700: Capstone Course: Integrating your MA-IS Studies and Research is to guide students in a reflective process on the integrated and interdisciplinary pathways of their studies in the MA-IS Program. This reflective process will culminate in a Capstone Project that consists of either a final paper on a topic of the student’s choice or a curated eportfolio, accompanied by a thorough reflection on the student’s MA-IS journey.
